About Rachael Maly

In a nutshell: Kind, Inspiring, Empathetic
Specialties: Self-Awareness, Emotional Regulation, Improved Self-Worth
Population: Adults, Adolescents, Children

An artistic and caretaking start led Rachael to pursue the arts.  Rachael has had the privilege to work artistically with children and adolescents in schools over the past 21 years. Degrees in fine arts and education fueled her love of people and of learning. Becoming an art therapist intensified her relationship with art as a healing modality. It is her joy to currently work as a psychotherapist and be able to help many people. She is also trained as a yoga teacher and finds yoga and art to be excellent companions as they both are meditative and mindfulness practices with similar and complementary benefits.

Rachael is delighted to have co-founded the Art, Movement, and Life Skills Academy (AMLSA) with her wonderful partner and friend, Lola. Making art allows children and adults to connect to their inner wisdom and integrate their experiences. It provides healthy coping skills, promotes healthy interpersonal relationships, and adds meaning and purpose. Art is a multifaceted and universal language that is foundational and natural for all children. Identifying as an artist enables children to grow into adults who are not overtaken by consumerism but become creative leaders with the ability to turn problems into creative life giving solutions. The difference between a child who continues to bravely express themselves creatively past third grade and one who doesn’t is due to the encouragement, fostering, and confidence received in childhood.

If you did not have the benefit of being encouraged creatively when you were young, it is not too late! Come to a class and see what beauty may come to your life. Rachael is so happy to teach in a creative center. She firmly believes art created in community is much more enhancing and life giving. There are no dishes to do or homework to get done here!

*Rachael is a LPC (licensed professional counselor) and ATR (Registered Art Therapist).
